How do I get started?
Go to the US Soccer website to get started. From there you can Start Your Journey. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a Grassroots Referee license for the current registration year.

How old do I need to be to ref?
You must be 13 years or older.

What do I need to do annually to maintain my referee status?

What is a Grassroots Referee?
U.S. Soccer Grassroots Referees are qualified to officiate competitive, small-sided or recreational youth matches and amateur adult matches

What is the cost to become a Grassroots referee?
The cost is approximately $65 for the In-Person Clinic. Then you will have additional costs for the ref gear.

Do I need to buy referee gear? Where can I get it?
There are a few places you can get all the gear you need to start reffing.  One of those places is  "The Soccer Referee Company." In order to get started in the "Grassroots" program you will need: 

• USSF shirt (yellow) with velcro to hold badge
• Black Shorts
• Black Long socks
• Red & Yellow Card Set
• Data Wallet
• Pen/pencil
• Coin
• Scorepad
• Whistle
• Watch
• Flag set
